  • Maple visit to Winchester Science Centre

    Fri 29 Mar 2019
Maple Class went on a trip to Winchester Science Centre on Friday 29th March.  In our robotics workshop, we learnt how to program are own 'Crumble' robots and some robots had funky light displays! After, we were wowed by the planetarium show and learnt about different technologies in space. We also really enjoyed exploring and learning about all types of Science from the interactive exhibits. Thank you to all of our adult helpers for making it possible.
  • Year 6 Science Lesson

    Fri 15 Mar 2019

On Friday 15th March, Hawthorn Class investigated how sun tunnels work.  Their research showed that sun tunnels can significantly change rooms that do not have access to natural light.  We discussed how light reflects off of the tube sides,  having the net effect of light going around corners to reach dark rooms.   The 'Angle of Incidence' theory was discussed and children learnt that whilst light only travels in straight lines, our experiments showed how light tunnels with bends transfer the light from the source to the destination.  We made our own sun tunnels from a selection of resources and we were thoroughly impressed with our results!

Thank you to all of our adult helpers for making it possible, sorry that you got a little bit damp.
  • Year 5 Day at Eggar's School

    Wed 13 Mar 2019

On Wednesday 13th March 2019 Year 5 visited Eggar’s School for the day and we all had a great time. First of all we learnt some information about the school and its history from Mrs Kinteh. We also learnt about the Eggar’s experience where you can get involved in lots of different clubs and other events. We found out that the original school was built in 1642 but the new site was built in 1967. Next we headed onto the history class and we discovered a murder mystery with Miss Hopkins. By going around the school we could find clues as to how Ruth Ashdown, who was just twelve, died. As well as finding out information about her and her life in Victorian times, we came up with our own theory about how she died and why. In the afternoon we created batik fish with Mrs Drew using wax and dye on material and then dried them with a hairdryer. When we got back the whole class voted the experience between 7 and 10 out of 10.

  • Year 1 Go Jetters Geography

    Tue 12 Mar 2019

    Year 1 - Geography

The children have enjoyed building on their compass knowledge from their recent school trip to Gilbert White House.  Together we created a mind map of the different UK landmarks that we know.  The children then followed instructions using both positional language and compass directional vocabulary to help their Go Jetters visit the different landmarks.  Following this activity, the children became cartographers and designed their own symbols and key to represent the famous landmarks - Super work Year 1!

  • Year 2 Magic Faraway Tree DT

    Tue 12 Mar 2019
Year 2 have been busy designing their own Magic Faraway Tree.   The children have begun to create their own treehouse by selecting natural resources to decorate their tree.  They were very excited to be able to use sandpaper to prepare their own treehouse platform and use real hammers and nails to secure the platforms to their tree.  We have started to create accessories for our treehouse such as ladders, bridges and zip wires and we are really looking forward to creating our treehouses over the next couple of weeks!  Fantastic work Year 2!
  • YEAR 3 visit the Natural History Museum

    Fri 08 Mar 2019

The children travelled to the Earth Zone and spent time finding out about volcanoes and earthquakes. We all felt shaking when we experienced an earthquake for ourselves.

The children also had the opportunity to be palaeontologists, digging up dinosaur bones and using observable features and measurements to identify the dinosaur.

As we left, the children also spotted David Walliams’ yellow post box.

    What an exciting Day!
