    Fri 21 Jun 2019

    Winchester Cathedral

By Poppy Reeves and Claire Tafura

On Friday 21st June, Hawthorn class went on a school trip to the wonderful Winchester Cathedral for our Leavers’ Service. As well as the actual service, we were lucky enough to do two activities: Virtual Reality by Kew Gardens, and we got to look around the spectacular place of worship. For the Virtual Reality, we had three different challenges to complete, which were all to do with our heroes: bees! Hawthorn learnt all there is to know about bees and how they help us to survive.

Isobel: “It was fabulous. It was a really interesting experience that I loved!”

Nancy: “I liked it because it taught me amazing things!”

Scarlett: “I really enjoyed it because we got to learn how to look after bees, and it was a spectacular school trip.”

  • Year 6 Maths Challenge

    Thu 20 Jun 2019

    Alton College Mathematics Challenge

Last Thursday, students from various primary and secondary schools attended an inter-school maths challenge at Alton College.  Some of our Year 6 pupils took part in the competition. Firstly, we competed as a St Lawrence team completing 10 horrifically hard challenges in just 40 minutes, then we joined up with some students from Amery to solve some even harder equations in a back and forth, quick-fire collaboration.

It was a mental struggle but we worked really well as a team, learnt lots and had a great time exploring further into the mathematical world.

  • Year 6 to Wintershall

    Tue 18 Jun 2019

On Tuesday 18th June, Hawthorn class went on a school trip to see a very immersive play about Jesus. This covered the key events of his life, for example: The Crucifixion of Jesus, the feeding of the 5000, and many more. In addition to thinking about putting yourself in someone else’s shoes, they gave us some morals to take home, and reflect on. It was quite fascinating that all the cast (except for Jesus, who was a professional actor) were residents from the area! As well as this, the cast let all of the audience get involved, like when they gave out the bread! This was definitely a marvellous experience to see, because it enhanced our knowledge of the story of Christ and all the miracles that he performed. We would most definitely go again! Written by Claire Tafura and Poppy Reeves

“It was an unforgettable experience!” Ellie-May

“I really enjoyed it and if I could go back, I definitely would!” Xenia

“It was a fabulous experience! Also, very realistic and good acting!” Poppy M

“I loved how some of the actors had played many different roles!” Keira

“It was a phenomenal school trip. It actually taught me more than I expected. My favourite part was when the disciples were fighting the guards.” Spencer

  • Year 5 visit Longleat

    Thu 13 Jun 2019

On Friday 7th of June 2019, Sycamore Class went to Longleat and had a wonderful experience. When we first arrived, we were very excited as we were about to go on a boat to Gorilla Island. Even though the weather was unpleasant, we didn’t stop us from enjoying the following activities. In the lake, there were sea lions that we were able to feed! During this, we saw two hippos bathing in the water. When we arrived at Gorilla Island, we saw two gorillas! After this, we went to the animal handling centre and had the opportunity to hold snakes, tarantulas etc., then we ate our lunch in the café. After that, we looked at all the animals including koalas, crocodiles, butterflies, maras, meerkats, armadillos and much more. Then we bought souvenirs from the gift shop. As a treat, we each had the chance to go on the rocky rhino ride! Our last experience was a journey through the safari on the coach. We saw zebras, giraffes, camels, ostriches, lions, tigers, cheetahs, wolves and many more. That was a great end to a day full of fun and thank you to all the teachers and helpers who volunteered and gave up their time to take us on a magnificent trip.

  • Year 5 "Night at the Musicals"

    Wed 05 Jun 2019

On 23rd May, some children from Sycamore Class represented St Lawrence CE Primary School at a “Night at the Musicals” organised by Amery Hill School. They sang songs jointly with other schools such as “This is Me” and “Naughty”. Then they performed their own solo piece which was Abba’s Dancing Queen. They had all the moves to go with it and were absolutely fantastic – singing with passion and enthusiasm. We were so proud of them!
