St Lawrence CE Primary School

Children's positions of responsibility/Pupil voice

We are really proud of our children and pupil voice is important to us here at St Lawrence.

Each year we hold democratic elections for our Head Boy and Head Girl with vacancies also for two Deputy Head Boys and two Deputy Head Girls. Their responsibilities include: talking to prospective parents, welcoming families to Family Time and representing the school at special events.

Our pupils across the school also hold positions of responsibility as:

  • Pupil Leadership Team (Head Boy, Head Girl and Deputies)
  • Collective Worship Crusaders
  • Global Ambassadors
  • EDI Heroes (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion)
  • Alton Church Council Reps
  • Eco Champions
  • Play Leaders
  • Health and Safety Officers

ECO CHAMPIONS

We are proud to announce that at the end of the summer we were awarded the Green Flag Eco Award! This is due to the hard work of Mrs Brown and her Eco Champions and Mrs Parks and her Global Ambassadors. We are now proud to display the logo on our headed paper and on our website. We also have a certificate that will be proudly displayed in our entrance hall. Here are some of the comments we received in our feedback:

Your greatest success was transforming the Spiritual Garden into a calming Eco-space, providing pupils with meaningful opportunities to deepen their connection with nature and promoting long-term positive impacts on biodiversity and sustainable Eco practices. Well done!”

“We loved how your school developed a partnership with St Lawrence Eco-Church to create impactful biodiversity projects, such as building a hedgehog home with the help of the Men’s Shed, which has given pupils a hands-on connection to their local environment and inspired ongoing stewardship.”

“It was fantastic how the whole school was involved in planting sunflowers and herbs, encouraging every pupil to take responsibility for biodiversity care, which will cultivate a culture of ownership and pride that supports long-term environmental impact. We enjoyed finding out about your innovative ‘Bin-It Brigade’ and community litter-picking efforts, which brought together families and provided practical lessons in Eco-litter management, empowering pupils to make positive changes both at school and at home.”

A big thank you to Mrs Brown and Mrs Parks for all the work they and the children have put in this year. Over the summer Mrs Brown (and Mr Brown!) have transformed our Spiritual Garden. We now have a beautiful space for a whole class of children to sit and experience outdoor learning complete with a new chalkboard and bespoke benches. Pupils will be able to chat to friends and to observe insects in the bug hotel. Thank you to the PTA for funding this. Please see the photos that show the wonderful transformation.
